An excerpt from Graphic Design as a Second Language.
I am reminded of an experience that I had in Germany while visiting the new Bauhaus, the design school in Ulm. The director at the time, Moldinado, a South American architect, after a devastating criticism of my work, tried to straighten me out.
“Graphic design,” he pontificated, “is either image or icon or noise.”
